John travels to Greece to help Rovers move

GEORGE John has flown to Greece to move his dream Premier League switch a step forward after Blackburn Rovers had a bid in principle
accepted by American side FC Dallas.

The Greek-American centre back has been targeted by Rovers boss Steve Kean as a potential solution to his squad’s current defensive frailties, with the player ready to fly to England should the
deal progress in the next 24 hours.

John, 24, has yet to start serious negotiations with Rovers but yesterday flew to Greece to pick up his EU passport in readiness for should an agreement be struck.

The 6ft 3ins defender was hoping talks with the club would be held imminently allowing him to fly in to Brockhall later this week to seal the deal, but any move won’t be completed in time for
tomorrow’s Carling Cup second round tie at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

It is understood there are still minor issues to be resolved between Rovers and FC Dallas but, with a deal largely agreed with the Major League Soccer side, John is ready to follow Ryan Nelsen’s
footsteps in making the journey from the States to the Premier League.

Rovers are understood to have other defenders in their sights, including a permanent move for Manchester City’s Nedum Onuoha, but John is high up on Kean’s wish list.

John’s agent Ted Philapakos, said: “George is leaving Dallas this morning (Monday) and is meeting with me at JFK airport in New York this afternoon. We are then boarding a plane for Athens later.

“The reason we are going to Athens is while George is technically a Greek citizen he does not have a Greek passport and you need one to be registered as an EU player. So we hope to pick that up
either on Tuesday or Wednesday, it is not a problem it is just red tape.

“Between now and then we would hope to have some negotiations with Blackburn Rovers about personal terms and the idea is if we can get an agreement in place then we will travel to England.

“Until then it really depends on what Blackburn Rovers want to do, it is not completely in our hands. I understand George might not be the only centre back they want.

“Dallas are allowing him to travel. Of course it is a fantastic opportunity and we would not be travelling if we didn’t think that.”

In May 2011, John trained with the Greek national team and Rovers believe he has the pace and strength to be a success in the Premier League.

Meanwhile Rovers boss Steve Kean remains hopeful Canadian starlet Junior Hoilett will sign a new contract imminently, although the Lancashire Telegraph understand there remain several issues to be
sorted out and a resolution could yet take some time.

After witnessing the cynical dismantling of my beloved BRFC, since the Venkys regime took over, I feel it’s time for not only the Rovers fans to unite, but for the LET to finally listen to it’s infighting readership. These forums have now descended into distracting chaos, with fans simply attacking other’s views with a tirade of personal abuse – behaving like a mutinous crew on a rudderless ship. Whilst the captain (LET) has failed to show leadership in skippering a rapidly sinking vessel. There have been personal attacks on Andy Cryer, basically because Venkys are oblivious and the LET do not appear to be representing the frustrated fans voices. Some have asked, and rightly so, for the LET to conduct big polls such as ‘Should Kean be Sacked?’ and ensure the owners see them. I also feel that the LET has failed to referee and censor warring fans in it’s forums – allowing racist and other unacceptable insults into it’s columns. The legacy of the incredible Jack Walker is heartbreakingly being ripped apart, day by day and it’s time for the LET to take some swift and positive action. I feel the paper owes this to Jack Walker, and to it’s own readership that has purchased the paper over it’s history. Blackburn needs a Premiership football club to help create jobs and the additional revenue a Premier club generates. It’s time for the LET to do it’s bit for the town. Stop the infighting and within your columns by conducting serious polls and – ENSURE THAT VENKYS HEAR THE FANS VIEWS – in India. Otherwise BRFC are set to rapidly plummet through the divisions into oblivion, taking it’s town and it’s proud history with it. Remember LET, that when Venkys’ short reign is ended at Blackburn – as it surely will – the townspeople and fans will still be here to hail those whom helped their beloved football club in their hour of need. Or indeed, disinherit those whom they feel failed in their capacity to do so.

The most important bit in this story is the news that Hoilett’s contract is STILL not signed and sealed!

He is an absoluetly outstanding talent and we should get his terms sorted out urgently before someone comes in with a sizeable bid and gives him exactly what he wants.

How can Rovers still be in a position in the negotiations where we still have ‘several points’ to sort out?!

We have been talking to him and his father for weeks already….get it sorted this week Rovers!

Totally agree with this post, the quality of reporting over the summer has been very poor.
I get the impression that the LET are afraid of upsetting the Venkie’s.
Time to stand up and be counted , ask the questions for the fans.

Who owns Ewood park

Who owns Brockhall

Did they pay off the debt

Are they looking to invest in new players, or just sell to fund new signings

Why do they only go to away games

Are they prepared to face a fans forum or phone in on radio lancs

Morning BRFC Fans!

After watching Rovers first two games of the season, it makes for slightly worrying viewing. I know that it is ONLY Rovers first two games and there is a long way to go, but the signs so far have been anything but reassuring.

Firstly, it is blatantly apparent as it has been all summer, that we need to make several new signings in order to even be competitive in the league in my opinion.

We need at least two new defenders, one of which should be George John of FC Dallas, which upon checking his performances out on youtube (not that that is much to go by) he seems a very tidy player with all the attributes to be a very useful player. Things to note is that he seems to have a very simple game, cut the ball out, pass it off to another player (harder than it seems for some players) and secondly that he started every game for FC Dallas last season so it appears he avoids injury quite well. I would also be happy with a loan player from one of the bigger clubs, Nedum Onuoha would be my first choice, he is strong, quick and would be adept at Right-back or Centre-back.

I feel we still need to strengthen midfield even with the impending arrival of Simon Vukcevic. although it appeas this fellow can play across the midfield, I think we need a proven PL creative midfielder that can pull the strings going forward. I feel there is no better candidate for this than Niko Kranjcar, he is fast, direct, very good at passing the ball and has a mean pair of shooting boots, and better still it appears Tottenham may let him go for a reasonable fee.

Lastly we desperately need forwards. Probably two. It seems that Raul deal is dead in the water after he decided to stay with Schalke which is a shame as he would definitely have become a fan’s favourite. On the other hand, the deal to bring Vedad Ibisevic to the club is gathering pace, with a bid that has supposedly been made. He seems a very good player, one we have been missing since Santa Cruz’ first season at the club, that being height and strength. Although rumour has it he is currently injured until late September, I feel it would be well worth the risk, and who knows with our excellent medical staff he may be ready sooner than that. However I still feel we need a 20 a season striker to complete the squad, and if Venky’s are true to their word (skeptical) they must spend the big money in order to land him. This player being Papisse Cisse. It is clear we need him, he is scoring for fun in the German Bundesliga and in my opinion easily score the goals we so desperately need.

The other point I wish to make is that upon viewing Rovers games during the summer and in the PL, I am not sure we have got the tactics right just yet, I like that Kean wants his men to play flowing, passing football but the players then seem to forget how to defend. It is none more apparent than against Villa where we would quite happily knock the ball around very nicely but when Villa began to attach we just fell apart and Salgado and young Hanley were exposed far too easily. The midfield for me was the mistake, Dunn, Pedersen and N’Zonzi were, for large periods pedestrian, they lacked any desire to close down the man and help the back-line. Dunn in particular was not good enough, he walked for most of the game before he was pulled off. Petrovic will be a much better midfield engine, freeing up other players to be more attacking.

Anyway just a few thoughts

These contracts are procrastinated as we have no MD, CEO or probably Chief Scout. We have no club doctor so injuries aren’t getting sorted as everyone with any tie to the old regime has been booted out or sworn an oath to the Venky’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if the LET are under a gagging order by the Venky’s. I am even afraid for my post now as anyone who has risen against this lot have dissapeared out of sight!! Shhh, they are watching all of us!!!

The Walkers should be hanging their heads in shame. God bless Jack!!

i completely agree with the sentiments to reduce the needlessly antagonistic posts. on the whole, the infighting is down to frustration.
+
but there are untertiones in many of the above posts which suggest that somehow the LET is expected to have a hotline through to venky’s ownership. i thinks it’s unrealistic to expecy venky’s to care more about the LET than it does about other news organisations. i don’t see that andy cryer can do much more than he’s already doing.
+
also, by definition, people are suggesting that venky’s are not already listening to fans’ opinions. they have, on a few occasions, responded directly to concerns. if the response is not what you want to hear, that does not mean it is a lack of response. they have their vision for the club, and we as fans have our own. the perfect storm is for them both to match up, but it cannot always be the case.
+
are the management and owners inexperienced at this level? – i think we can say a resounding yes. however, are they attempting to build something positive? – i would say yes to that too. others clearly feel not. all we can go on is the information to hand, and they have stated a number of times what they want to do with the club. there are attempts occuring in the transfer market, which surpass what has happend in recent years, and they have in essence bought the right to build the club in their vision. some of us will agree and go with it, others won’t. that does not mean that they are not trying.

but there are untertiones in many of the above posts which suggest that somehow the LET is expected to have a hotline through to venky’s ownership. i thinks it’s unrealistic to expecy venky’s to care more about the LET than it does about other news organisations. i don’t see that andy cryer can do much more than he’s already doing.

also, by definition, people are suggesting that venky’s are not already listening to fans’ opinions. they have, on a few occasions, responded directly to concerns. if the response is not what you want to hear, that does not mean it is a lack of response. they have their vision for the club, and we as fans have our own. the perfect storm is for them both to match up, but it cannot always be the case.
+
are the management and owners inexperienced at this level? – i think we can say a resounding yes. however, are they attempting to build something positive? – i would say yes to that too. others clearly feel not. all we can go on is the information to hand, and they have stated a number of times what they want to do with the club. there are attempts occuring in the transfer market, which surpass what has happend in recent years, and they have in essence bought the right to build the club in their vision. some of us will agree and go with it, others won’t. that does not mean that they are not trying.

Up the Blues

Very good thoughts too 🙂

There won’t be enough supporters on wed to protest – most will vote with there feet by not goin. Its a shame but people won’t pay good money to watch the same **** as last year. If muppet Kean can’t understand that we won’t turn up to watch players that got us in exactly the same position last year then he must go! And whoever comes in to replace him is goin to be left with the same **** + all these last gasp signings that hes being allowed to bring in.

i’m 50/50 on either buying a lottery ticket or putting a bet on that by the end of the season rovers will be in the top 8 and kean will still be in charge. i bet its longer odds than winning the national lottery. and with my winnings, i’ll buy the club back, and turn it into a club that is controlled by a supproters consortium (were fans vote on all transfers and hiring and firing decisions). now, nobody need worry anymore.

I was Ewood for the Wolves game, and Formica looked one of our best players, chasing after balls, good touches etc, I cannot believe he was dropped for Villa game. That is simply bad management.

I question if Salgado, Dunn and Roberts are good enough for the Premier League, all have no pace in the fastest paced league in the world.

It is hard to try and gauge what Venky’s are up to, but a few seasons ago we were looking like we could have gone bankrupt. So whilst I am not going to sit here and criticize them just yet, they must be able to see they have made a terrible mistake employing somebody with no experience or proven track record to manage a Premiership team, in fact I would question if he would even be given the job by a Championship club.

In some ways I feel sorry for him as this will be his last top flight job. I cannot understand what games he watches, every interview he says about taking positives. He is not a natural leader and certainly not a winner, summed up in the quote give to Beeb “The third goal then killed us because once we scored we were in the ascendancy” They scored in the 67 minute, 23 minutes is plenty of time in football.

Loser!

Some of the comments regarding Kean are outrageous. Yes the man is deeply out of his depth and yes I am praying for Hughes to come back but do we have to hope he dies, or gets run over, as some posts today have said ? Like BioBlueNWhite says, this will be his last top level job so you can hardly blame him for hanging on. The problems at Rovers are simply down to Venkys. Football is a results based industry and ours, since Kean took over, have been poor. This is Venkys fault for persevering with the current manager. Please don’t expect Kean to resign. It ain’t going to happen.

Reg Is Banned
The Lancashire Telegraph has banned any paid advertisements for Reg of the Rovers website.
In a draconian act of censorship, Editor Kevin Young has banned “Reg”, despite having advertised since the website was created in December 2010, the telegraph editor has issued instructions that Reg is banned from advertising in the pages of the Blackburn based newspaper.
I have not spoken to the editor directly, his instructions were passed onto me by a member of his advertising staff citing a “conflict of interest” whatever that means?
I have been very critical of the new owners since they took over the club; their running of the club has been met with ridicule from all sections of the media, except the Lancashire Telegraph. My criticism has been echoed by many supporters in addition to the National Press so I am not alone voice. I just want to know what is happening to my beloved Blackburn Rovers.
To emphasise my points I May have gone over the O.T.T. at times but have only reported facts as they have occurred. These are well documented on the “Reg” website.
It is strange that a newspaper should try to gag someone’s opinions, especially in these days when the press itself is objecting to “gagging orders” handed down by high court judges to protect revelations regarding celebrities personal lives, another matter altogether, I have just an opinion that Blackburn Rovers are being very badly run and employ an inadequate manager. On the other hand Mr Young may be acting under pressure on him from within Ewood Park.
If that is the case and I am not saying it is, then the owners are going to need thicker skins if they are to own a Premiership club, soon destined to be a Championship club if Kean remains in charge.
