Samaras: Greece to Speed Up Pace of Overhauls

ATHENS—Greece said it wants to step up the pace of overhauls, acknowledging that its austerity program was off track, while it insisted that terms of the country’s multibillion-euro bailout would need to be renegotiated because of a deeper-than-expected recession.

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who returned Thursday after eye surgery, promised a visiting delegation of inspectors from the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank—known as the troika—that the coalition government he leads will do more to make the structural changes demanded of Athens.
